ICHCA'S INTERNATIONAL SAFETY PANEL HOLDS SUCCESSFUL 64TH MEETING

Wednesday 26 October 2011 at 10:38 am The 64th meeting of the International Safety Panel, integrating the International Security Panel and the Environmental Sub Group, was held in Norfolk, Virginia, USA on the 17th and 18th October. In addition to discussing and debating issues relating to container corner casting failures, ships cranes, the structural examination of cranes and design life issues, the meeting also received the latest update on IMO, ILO and ISO activities and meeting outcomes, including the recently held DSC/16. The group had a lengthy discussion on the subject of the misdeclaration of the gross weight of containers and two representatives from the WSC were present to take part in discussions. As well as the above and a full agenda, there was an opportunity for a joint meeting with the National Maritime Safety Association (NMSA) which represents the marine cargo handling industry in the United States in safety and health matters. The meeting also received various presentations and update presentations. All in all, a very successful meeting was held. The next meeting of the combined Panels will be in January 2012 in London.
